ESP Teacher Professional Development Certification Program Co-organized by Our EMI Resource Center and National Taipei University of Technology – Invitation to ESP/EMI Faculty and Request for Official Leave and Incentive Support

Description:

1. To support universities in aligning with EMI course implementation, institutions are encouraged to provide adequate training and support for students. It is also recommended to offer ESP (English for Specific Purposes) courses starting from the freshman year, integrating university language teaching units with the needs of different colleges to establish a solid foundation in discipline-specific English and facilitate a smooth transition to EMI courses.

2. The EMI Resource Center of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with National Taipei University of Technology, will jointly organize the “ESP Teacher Professional Development Certification Program.” The program incorporates international academic resources and practical experience in ESP curriculum development, aligning with institutional EMI teaching strategies. By advancing both ESP and EMI in parallel, the program aims to comprehensively promote bilingual education. Details are as follows:

   (1) Course Duration: April 11 to May 23, 2026 (24 hours in total)
   (2) Format: Blended learning (online and in-person sessions)
   (3) Venue: Google Meet and National Taipei University of Technology (in-person final presentation)
   (4) Instructors: Faculty from the Department of Applied English, National Taipei University of Technology, and the Fulbright English Teaching Advisory Team
   (5) Target Participants: Full-time or contract English instructors and EMI faculty members from universities and colleges

3. As ESP is a key component of the Ministry of Education’s Bilingual Education Initiative, institutions are encouraged to actively support and nominate ESP and EMI faculty members to participate.

4. In alignment with the “Bilingual Nation 2030” policy, the Ministry of Education has commissioned National Taiwan University of Science and Technology to establish the EMI Resource Center since 2024, providing EMI-related services to faculty and students nationwide.
