Professor Wen-Bin Lai of Yuan Ze University Won the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Curriculum Award" for Innovations in Mobile Communication Education

Amid the rapidly evolving landscape of 5G and 6G technologies, Yuan Ze University once again achieved remarkable success in the field of mobile communications education. Professor Wen-Bin Lai from the Department of Electrical Engineering led the “Phase I Project for the Improvement and Promotion of Core Professional Courses in Mobile Communications,” which, after two years of dedicated effort, stood out in the final selection and was awarded the highest honor—the Outstanding Curriculum Award—highlighting Yuan Ze University's leadership in cutting-edge network and communication technology education.

The curriculum selection activity was held in conjunction with the “B5G/6G Advanced Communication Networks Symposium and Project Achievement Presentation.” A total of 28 projects from 23 universities nationwide competed for recognition. Eight courses were selected for the Excellent Curriculum Award, with only a few advancing to the second-round evaluation. Professor Lai’s team took the top prize with its innovative course design and practice-oriented curriculum content, ultimately winning the Outstanding Curriculum Award.

Professor Lai stated that the project was conducted from February 2023 to January 2025, aiming to systematically redesign and enhance core mobile communication courses for senior undergraduate and graduate students to align with global B5G/6G and smart networking trends. The curriculum featured four key courses: Network Management and Robot Operating Systems for undergraduates, and Principles and Applications of 5G Network Function Virtualization and Introduction to the Internet of Things: Technologies and Applications for graduate students (also open to advanced undergraduates).

The courses placed equal emphasis on theory and hands-on practice, incorporating industry-oriented applications. Through experimental design and interdisciplinary integration, students were guided to master key technologies in mobile networking and communications. Professor Lai, in collaboration with co-principal investigator Professor Po-Chiang Lin, built a strong teaching and research team. Within just two years, they successfully trained over 200 students with practical competencies in mobile network communication technologies.

As the world continued to advance toward 6G and intelligent connected applications, Yuan Ze University demonstrated its robust capacity for cultivating high-level talent and played a vital role in driving the development of Taiwan’s mobile communications industry.
