YZU Deepened Academic Exchange with Hong Kong Polytechnic University through Chinese Culture Forum

The Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature at Yuan Ze University (YZU) has long been dedicated to international academic exchange, actively establishing strong partnerships with top universities worldwide to broaden students’ global perspectives and enhance their humanistic literacy. Following previous collaborations with institutions such as City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), and Busan University of Foreign Studies in South Korea, the department once again joined hands with the Department of Chinese History and Culture at PolyU to co-host the "2025 YZU & PolyU Chinese Culture Forum" in May 2025. This event further deepened academic exchange between the two universities and expanded students’ cultural horizons.

The forum welcomed 15 faculty members and students from PolyU, who traveled to YZU to participate in the event. Together with YZU’s faculty and students, a total of 35 academic papers were presented. Topics covered a wide range of fields, including modern and contemporary literary interpretations, ancient systems and rituals, translation of Chinese and Western literature, the evolution of folk beliefs, interdisciplinary dialogues between art and literature, and the global dissemination of martial arts philosophy.

To encourage student research performance, the organizers selected and honored eight outstanding student papers. Among them, YZU students Lin Luo-Xie, Lin Wen-Ting, Hung Yu-Han, and Chang En-Yu stood out, showcasing their strong academic competence and critical thinking abilities.

After the forum, faculty and students from both universities visited several culturally significant sites in the Zhongli area. These field visits enabled a deeper understanding of Taiwan's local culture, historical context, and diverse characteristics.

Professor Shih-Hui Hung, Chair of the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature at YZU, noted that The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world—57th in the 2025 QS World University Rankings and 84th in THE rankings—and is especially renowned in the field of engineering and technology. PolyU highly recognizes YZU as one of Taiwan’s most internationalized universities of science and technology. Both universities shared similar backgrounds and visions, striving to promote the integration of humanities and technology and to explore the inheritance and future potential of Chinese culture in the age of AI.

Professor Hung emphasized that YZU’s Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature had maintained ongoing exchanges with PolyU’s Department of Chinese History and Culture in recent years. This forum not only solidified the foundation of their collaboration but also highlighted their shared vision of advancing both technology and the humanities. Looking ahead, YZU’s department would continue to expand its international cooperation network and cultivate modern Chinese professionals with both a global vision and cultural depth, injecting new vitality into the diverse development of Chinese culture.
