Yuan Ze University Students Shared Mid-Autumn Warmth with Elderly Living Alone

The Office of Student Affairs at Yuan Ze University led the university’s volunteer team, the Life Ambassadors, in organizing a community outreach event titled “Heartfelt Mid-Autumn, Sharing Love and Warmth.” The initiative brought students into local neighborhoods, where they personally delivered mooncakes to elderly residents living alone, spreading warmth and care ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

During the visits, students not only spent time chatting with the seniors but also shared mooncakes — a symbol of reunion — allowing the elderly to experience the joy and festive spirit of the season. One elderly resident, surnamed Lin, expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I am very thankful for the care and company of Yuan Ze University students. Their visit made this Mid-Autumn Festival feel especially warm and touching.”

Lin, a student from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science who joined the outreach event for the first time, shared that although he initially felt a bit shy, seeing the seniors’ sincere smiles made him feel happy and fulfilled. He described the experience as “rare and deeply meaningful.” Wu, a student from the Department of Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics, said the experience helped him realize that “doing good deeds can actually be a joyful thing,” and expressed appreciation to the university for providing opportunities to give back to society in meaningful ways.

Yuan Ze University had long been committed to community service, organizing various care activities during major Taiwanese holidays such as Lunar New Year, Mother’s Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival. This year’s event was also part of the “Three Acts of Goodness Campus Practice Program,” which emphasized the principles of “doing good deeds, speaking kind words, and cultivating kind thoughts.” Through this initiative, students were guided to turn compassion into concrete action.

Dean of Student Affairs Yi-Chun Liu stated that Yuan Ze University had actively encouraged students to step beyond the campus and engage in service learning to cultivate gratitude, empathy, and a spirit of giving. She noted that combining community care with traditional Taiwanese festivals not only embodied the essence of holistic education but also brought warmth and vitality to local communities.

This Mid-Autumn Festival, Yuan Ze University’s faculty and students shared love and blessings through their actions, bringing joy and a sense of reunion to the elderly. They also hoped that this enduring spirit of kindness and compassion would continue to spread, warming every corner of society.
