The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Yuan Ze University earned a Silver Medal at the 2025 Taiwan Innotech Expo Invention Competition with an innovative patent that integrated generative AI and virtual-touch technology, once again demonstrating the department’s strong research capabilities in artificial intelligence and embedded systems.
The award-winning patent, titled “Interactive Learning System and Operating Method,” was developed under the supervision of Professor Ming-Yi Lin, with student researchers Li-Chen Wang, Yu-Hsuan Li, Meng-Chun Chen, and Chih-Ying Lü participating in the project.
The interactive learning platform created by the team automatically generated picture-book learning materials based on users’ age and interests, combined with multilingual audio narration and an immersive manipulation experience. Using virtual-touch technology, the system allowed learners to control the interface through hand gestures and featured dynamically generated content, touch-free interaction, and low-cost deployment—offering new possibilities for the integration of AI and human–computer interaction.
The Taiwan Innotech Expo was one of Taiwan’s most significant technology exhibitions, showcasing research achievements and forward-looking innovations across multiple fields. The invention competition emphasized originality, practicality, and presentation quality, requiring teams to undergo patent review, presentations, and oral defense—testing both technical depth and on-site performance.
The award-winning students noted that standing out among many participating teams had been the greatest affirmation of their research journey. They expressed gratitude to Professor Lin, whose professional guidance throughout system design, implementation, and prototyping had allowed the team to continuously push boundaries.
Professor Lin stated that the students took full responsibility for everything from system architecture to functional verification, demonstrating strong self-directed learning and teamwork skills. He believed that participating in national competitions not only enhanced students’ research and presentation abilities but also fostered critical thinking and innovative problem-solving.
In recent years, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Yuan Ze University actively promoted research in intelligent systems, embedded technologies, and AI applications, achieving notable results in areas such as autonomous vehicle systems and memory reliability testing. This latest award not only reflected students’ dedication and capabilities but also highlighted the department’s commitment to practical, innovation-driven education and research.
