Yuan Ze University Honored as an “Outstanding School” in the Friendly Campus Awards

In the Ministry of Education’s 2025 Northern Region “Friendly Campus Awards,” Yuan Ze University (YZU) was recognized with the highest honor—Outstanding School—for its exceptional performance across multiple dimensions, including campus safety, character education, student support services, and cross-unit collaboration. In addition, Chia-Hsiang Wu, a research project staff member at YZU, was selected as an Outstanding Student Affairs Professional, acknowledging his long-term dedication and contributions to student affairs.

Beyond its achievements in the awards ceremony, Yuan Ze University also hosted the 2025 Northern Region Chief Student Affairs Officers Meeting on November 10. The event was held in the Yan Gong Hall of Building 5 and brought together student affairs executives and professionals from more than 50 universities and colleges, creating a grand and vibrant gathering.

The meeting opened with remarks from Chia-Chien Hsu, Deputy Director of the Department of Student Affairs and Special Education at the Ministry of Education; Ching-Jung Liao, President of Yuan Ze University; and Mei-Chun Lin, Dean of Student Affairs at National Taiwan Normal University and Convener of the Northern Region Student Affairs Center. All three speakers emphasized that amid declining birth rates and rising awareness of campus safety issues, universities must strengthen interschool collaboration to create learning environments that are safe, warm, and rooted in humanistic care.

The day’s agenda included the presentation of the Friendly Campus Awards and Character Education Model School recognition, reports from Northern Region working groups, by-elections for committee members, and introductions and exchanges among student affairs deans. Two keynote sessions were also arranged to provide professional updates and opportunities for stress relief for student affairs personnel.

The first keynote was delivered by attorney Da-Chien Wei, who offered an in-depth analysis of “Student Guidance and Anti-Bullying Measures in the Internet Era,” sharing updates on relevant laws and practical strategies for case handling. The second session, hosted by Yi-Chun Liu, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs at YZU, focused on “Healing Through Horticulture.” Instructor Mu-Chieh Tian guided participants through hands-on plant arrangements designed to relax the body and mind while encouraging interschool interaction.

In his speech, President Ching-Jung Liao noted that student affairs work spans life counseling, mental health, dormitory management, extracurricular activities, campus safety, and character education—each directly affecting students’ well-being and security. He expressed gratitude to student affairs professionals nationwide for their dedication in responding to student needs and crises, as well as to the Ministry of Education for its long-term support, which has enabled universities to collectively promote a more friendly campus culture.

Dean Yi-Chun Liu stated that the Office of Student Affairs has remained committed to a “student-centered” philosophy, continuing to strengthen structured services such as career counseling, psychological counseling, extracurricular development, residential life, and health promotion. Looking ahead, the university will further align with Ministry of Education initiatives to enhance friendly campus and character education efforts and build a more comprehensive student support system.

Yuan Ze University noted that it would continue collaborating with universities and colleges across the Northern Region to reinforce student affairs governance capacity and to cultivate an educational environment that is safe, inclusive, and grounded in humanistic values. The goal is to move the Friendly Campus ideals from policy into sustained action—and ultimately embed them into the university’s culture.
