Yuan Ze University Cultivated a Self-Driven New Generation through Six Core Competencies, Shaping Archetype Talents with Global Competitiveness

In an era marked by the rapid development of artificial intelligence and heightened social uncertainty, the competencies required of future talents have undergone a profound transformation. Upholding its founding philosophy of holistic education, Yuan Ze University introduced the concept of “Archetype Talents,” outlining a developmental blueprint for a new generation of university graduates grounded in interdisciplinary integration, innovative practice, and self-driven learning.

Yuan Ze University explained that while the commonly referenced “π-shaped talent” model emphasized depth across multiple professional fields and cross-disciplinary capabilities, the “Archetype Talent” concept went a step further by incorporating the psychological concept of archetypes. This approach placed greater emphasis on intrinsic motivation, personal maturity, and value creation, aiming to cultivate students who not only possessed strong professional expertise but also remained grounded amid uncertainty and led positive change.

To translate this vision into concrete practice, Yuan Ze University structured its talent cultivation framework around six core competency domains: Academic Competence, Professional Competence, Social Competence, Technical and Practical Skills, Leadership, and Global Competence. These competencies were presented through a human-body metaphor. Academic and Professional Competence were likened to a pair of steady legs, forming a solid foundation of disciplinary knowledge and professional depth. Social Competence and Technical Skills symbolized the hands of innovation and practice, highlighting empathy, communication, hands-on learning, and social engagement. Leadership and Global Competence represented the head, fostering strategic thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and the capacity to innovate and lead in global contexts.

The University noted that through interdisciplinary curricula, service-learning initiatives, maker education, and domestic and international exchange programs, students applied their professional knowledge to real-world challenges such as smart cities, green technology, and long-term care services. In doing so, they achieved a balance between technological advancement and humanistic concern, thereby putting social values into practice.

In addition, beginning in the 2024 academic year, Yuan Ze University formally implemented a second academic transcript—the “Multi-Dimensional Achievement Certificate.” This certificate systematically documented students’ learning outcomes across the six core competency domains and was made available for online PDF download with official endorsement by the University President. It served as an important credential for scholarship applications, further studies, employment, internships, and various selection processes. The University reported that the certificate had been downloaded more than 2,000 times annually.

Yuan Ze University emphasized that being a “Yuan Ze Person” represented more than an institutional identity; it embodied a comprehensive integration of abilities and values. Through systematic educational design and competency-based cultivation, the University sought to nurture archetype talents who could remain resilient amid change and create value amid uncertainty, positioning them as a key driving force for the future development of society.
