Yuan Ze University Shared Warmth Ahead of Mother’s Day, Partnering with the Community to Convey Love and Gratitude

Ahead of Mother’s Day, the Life Counseling Section of the Office of Student Affairs at Yuan Ze University partnered with the service-oriented student club “Life Vanguard” to visit the Pingzhen Kangfu Intellectual Development Center and Zhongzheng Village and host the “Heart to Heart with Love: Mother’s Day Appreciation Event.” Nearby community residents were also invited onto campus to take part in a DIY carnation wreath workshop, expressing gratitude and heartfelt blessings to mothers through hands-on activities. The event was filled with warmth and lively interaction, strengthening community bonds while demonstrating students’ commitment to social care and engagement.

During the event, student volunteers accompanied mothers from the community as they created carnation wreaths and presented them with carnations. Through hands-on interaction and sincere companionship, the activity conveyed festive warmth and appreciation. Yi-Chun Liu, Dean of Student Affairs, remarked that there were still many groups in Taiwanese society who deserved care and attention. She noted that students stepping beyond the campus to give back to society through concrete actions embodied the University’s social responsibility. She further emphasized that the University had long encouraged students to “turn compassion into action,” cultivating character traits of responsibility, love, and care, and to uphold the spirit of the **“Three Goods”—doing good deeds, speaking kind words, and nurturing kind intentions—**to bring love and warmth to every corner of society continuously.

A volunteer mother from the Pingzhen Kangfu Intellectual Development Center expressed her gratitude for Yuan Ze University’s long-standing support of the Center’s activities. By incorporating various festive occasions into educational service programs, the University had accompanied underprivileged children in their growth. She noted that Yuan Ze students participated with initiative, enthusiasm, and creativity, not only bringing joy to the children but also allowing them to feel the warmth of society.

The village chief of Zhongzheng Village, Chief Wang, also expressed appreciation for Yuan Ze University’s long-term encouragement of student involvement in community service. He remarked that, especially ahead of Mother’s Day, the act of presenting carnations and offering companionship enabled elderly residents and mothers to experience a strong festive atmosphere, while conveying the highest respect to mothers who worked tirelessly for their families. Ms. Huang, one of the participating mothers, shared that it was her first time making a DIY carnation wreath and that she found the experience both novel and enjoyable. She expressed gratitude for the students’ patient assistance, which allowed her to feel the enthusiasm and care of the younger generation. She also commented that inviting community residents onto campus for such activities was highly creative and provided valuable opportunities for residents to connect more closely with the university environment.

A student surnamed Liu from the Department of International Business shared that the event was more than just a crafting activity; it was a process of sincere human interaction. The warmth and emotional connection experienced through the exchanges, he said, were far more precious than the finished products themselves. Another participating student, surnamed Chen from the Department of Finance, noted that it was his first close interaction with children with special needs. Through their earnest engagement in the activity and their innocent smiles, he witnessed courage and perseverance, which also allowed him to rediscover the true meaning of service.

Yuan Ze University stated that it would continue to integrate festive celebrations with public service initiatives in the future, deepening students’ social participation and fulfilling the University’s social responsibility through concrete actions. By doing so, the University aimed to ensure that love and care would continue to flow between the campus and the community.
