In 1996, the University merged the former Library and Computer Center to establish the Office of Library and Information Services. This integration of library and information services has enabled the development of an advanced campus information environment, the enrichment of diverse library collections, the support of teaching and research, the enhancement of administrative efficiency, and the provision of high-quality library and information services.
Information Services
In terms of information infrastructure, the campus backbone network and student dormitory network facilities have been comprehensively upgraded to meet the bandwidth requirements for multimedia streaming and online learning.
In addition to the campus backbone network, wireless coverage extends across all public classrooms, administrative areas, the library, student dormitories, and outdoor spaces. The University is also connected externally to the Taiwan Academic Network (TANet) and dedicated leased lines.
With this robust network infrastructure, Yuan Ze University faculty and students enjoy fast and stable broadband connectivity. The completion of the wireless network further enables seamless roaming across campus, allowing mobile learning without the constraints of time and space.
The major tasks of campus digitalization (e-campus) include not only network infrastructure, information system applications and development, and online learning, but also the establishment of sound management mechanisms, the creation of a knowledge center, the promotion of knowledge management, and the advancement of mobile information services.
Library Resources
The University Library was established in 1989 to serve as a learning resource center that meets the teaching and research needs of faculty and students. Guided by the principle of “enriching collections and promoting their use,” the Library is committed to both quality and quantity, as well as continuous improvement and innovation. With the gradual completion of various mobile learning facilities on campus, faculty and students can now access digital library resources anytime and anywhere via the network.
After relocating to a new building in 1997, the Library underwent an expansion in February 2006 to accommodate the growing student population and support its long-term development. The expansion increased the total floor area to 10,000㎡ and added 1,100 reading seats. The new building was designed with the concept of public art, featuring an atrium with natural lighting and greenery to create an aesthetic interaction between light and nature. Together with special collections and exhibition areas for cultural and artistic displays, the Library aims to foster a humanistic and artistic atmosphere on campus while providing a superior reading and learning environment. In addition to essential facilities such as bookshelves, the Library has also introduced public computer stations, video broadcasting, and digital research rooms to meet the needs of digital learning, aspiring to become a multifunctional learning resource center that integrates online learning, information retrieval, audiovisual leisure, group discussions, and language learning.
To enhance the quality of collection management and circulation services, the Library’s information system has been independently developed in-house, with a focus on integration with the University’s administrative systems and the continuous expansion of future library functions. System development emphasizes efficiency and quality control in cataloging and acquisitions, while continuously updating the user interface for resource discovery. With the goal of integrated, multi-collection search, the Library also plans to establish a data warehouse and strengthen personalized information services to maximize the effectiveness of collection utilization and promotion.
