- Topic: Educational Applications of Generative AI: Writing Pitfalls and Academic Integrity
- Speaker: Prof. Ting-Chia Hsu, Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development, National Taiwan Normal University
- Course Description: Generative AI is rapidly integrating into research proposals and thesis writing. While it helps researchers brainstorm ideas, organize literature, polish phrasing, assist in translation, and respond to reviewer comments, it also poses risks such as hallucinated citations, content hallucinations, plagiarism, research fabrication, copyright disputes, and over-reliance. Through practical case studies, academic publishing guidelines, and real-world thesis writing examples, this lecture will elaborate on the applicable scope, limitations, and disclosure principles of Generative AI across tasks including text generation, literature citation, image/data visualization, and translation. It will also analyze common AI writing footprints and high-risk practices that may breach academic ethics. The lecture emphasizes that AI should serve as an auxiliary tool for research and writing rather than a substitute for researchers' critical thinking and creativity. Authors remain solely responsible for verifying, judging, and refining all content and citations. This session aims to help participants enhance research and writing efficiency while maintaining originality, critical thinking, academic integrity, and human creative agency.
