To align with the government's 2030 Bilingual Nation Policy Blueprint, universities and colleges across the country have been actively promoting bilingual education. Yuan Ze University (hereinafter referred to as "the University") has long been dedicated to the development of bilingual instruction, with sustained efforts to cultivate bilingual talent. By offering English-Medium Instruction (EMI), the University provides students with more exposure to English in their daily academic lives, thereby enhancing their global competitiveness.
Three of the University’s colleges—the College of Management, the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering, and the College of Informatics—were honored as Focused Colleges under the Ministry of Education’s Bilingual Education for Students in College (BEST) Program in the 2023 academic year. The University received a total subsidy of NT$19.2 million. In the 2024 academic year, it continued its successful implementation of the program and was granted an increased subsidy of NT$20.2 million. The University sincerely thanks the Ministry of Education for this recognition and remains committed to continuous improvement.
To support the implementation of the BEST Program within the designated Focused Colleges, the University established the EMI Resource Center (hereinafter referred to as "the Center"). Upholding the principles of resource sharing and collaborative learning for mutual benefit, the Center has expanded the reach of the program to other colleges within the University. In addition to providing incentives for students to enhance their English learning, the Center also carries out various initiatives, as outlined below:
For Faculty
-
EMI Teaching Enhancement Workshops
-
Overseas Training Programs for Faculty
-
Professional Development Grants
For Students
-
English Language Competitions
-
Overseas Exchange Programs during Winter and Summer Breaks (also known as the “Thousand Students Abroad” initiative)
All of the above activities are open to all faculty and students of the University, regardless of their college affiliation.
Through these diverse initiatives, the Center aims to strengthen faculty members’ professional abilities in EMI and boost students’ motivation to learn English, making the learning process more engaging and enjoyable.
